Week 10
I spent most of my week on editing the video essay I mentioned in week 9's progress post, which I anticipated. The editing itself wasn't the most difficult part to me: that's more like a digital puzzle, but gathering the right visual material like specific scenes from large shows, proved to be a bit more difficult sometimes, but I made it work!

Due to some of the personal parts, I don't feel comfortable sharing the essay on a publicly accessible Hotglue page, but for those curious: it can be found in MS Teams in the Identity 3 group > Files > Emma > VIDEO ESSAY 1

Besides that, I met up with Kirsten again to discuss some similarities in source material we both used for our essay drafts, and to exchange other ideas and thoughts relating back to our essay topics and also some personal struggles we both share re: our academic position at the moment; I found it quite comforting to share and confide with a friend who experiences similar anxieties.

Lastly, we met up as a group, digitally of course, on Friday evening so everyone could share the development of their individual research. We found there were still some uncertainties re: the final form of our collective archive, and we hope to take some steps forward during Amy's group feedback-esque sessions next Monday.

Besides that, I admit that while I enjoyed putting this video essay together, I'm still a bit unsure of how it has helped, or will help, me forward. I always find that when talking to Teana especially, due to her extensive academic knowledge, she mentions things that get me thinking, but then post-meeting or conversation, I don't know how to pursue the thoughts she briefly exposed me to further. (Both her musings on the lack of female representation in my 'character timeline', among others, can be taken as an example here)

Part of me feels that this is maybe similar, but regardless it was interesting to explore my material in a different manner. Will it lead to a conclusion in any way? I sort of doubt it. It was more an exploration, the same way my entire personal archive seems to be an exploration of a topic that doesn't work towards an ultimate statement or conclusion. And I suppose that's okay, as long as it can find it's place in our final shared archive.
A screenshot of the final Adobe Premiere file: the pink blocks on the top rows are either still images or text, the blue are scenes I took from my source material. The two lines at the bottom are audio files. As the timer on the left suggests: yes, this video turned out to be 20 minutes long. Didn't plan for that, but it happened.
